چکیده

The important role of the Steenrod operations Sq in the description of the cohomology of topological spaces, the calculation of various spectral sequences, and the study of homotopy properties of topological spaces and their continuous maps is well known [1, 2]. Projective spaces, in particular RP∞ and CP∞ , play a special role in the construction of Steenrod operations and their computation. In the present paper, we consider secondary Steenrod operations and give formulas for computing these operations in the cohomology of the spaces RP∞ and CP∞ . Recall that the Steenrod operations Sq : H(X) → H(X) arise in the cohomology H∗(X) of a topological space X (with coefficients in Z/2) from the action of an E∞-operad on the singular cochain complex C∗(X) (see [1, 3]). An operad in the category of chain complexes is a family E = {E(j)} of chain complexes E(j) , j ≥ 1 , on which the permutation groups Σj act, together with maps γ : E(k)⊗ E(j1)⊗ · · · ⊗E(jk) → E(j1 + · · ·+ jk),

Unstable Module Presentations for the Cohomology of Real Projective Spaces

There is much we still do not know about projective spaces. We describe here how the mod two cohomology of each real projective space is built as an unstable module over the Steenrod algebra A, or equivalently, over K, the algebra of inherently unstable mod two “lower operations” originally introduced by Steenrod. In particular, to produce the cohomology of projective space of each dimension we...

Global structure of the mod two symmetric algebra , H ∗ ( BO ; F 2 ) , over the Steenrod Algebra

The algebra S of symmetric invariants over the field with two elements is an unstable algebra over the Steenrod algebra A, and is isomorphic to the mod two cohomology of BO , the classifying space for vector bundles. We provide a minimal presentation for S in the category of unstable A-algebras, i.e., minimal generators and minimal relations. From this we produce minimal presentations for vario...

Branched Coverings and Minimal Free Resolution for Infinite-dimensional Complex Spaces

We consider the vanishing problem for higher cohomology groups on certain infinite-dimensional complex spaces: good branched coverings of suitable projective spaces and subvarieties with a finite free resolution in a projective space P(V ) (e.g. complete intersections or cones over finitedimensional projective spaces). In the former case we obtain the vanishing result for H. In the latter case ...

A note on the new basis in the mod 2 Steenrod algebra

‎The Mod $2$ Steenrod algebra is a Hopf algebra that consists of the primary cohomology operations‎, ‎denoted by $Sq^n$‎, ‎between the cohomology groups with $mathbb{Z}_2$ coefficients of any topological space‎. ‎Regarding to its vector space structure over $mathbb{Z}_2$‎, ‎it has many base systems and some of the base systems can also be restricted to its sub algebras‎. ‎On the contrary‎, ‎in ...

Invariant elements in the dual Steenrod algebra

‎In this paper‎, ‎we investigate the invariant elements of the dual mod $p$ Steenrod subalgebra ${mathcal{A}_p}^*$ under the conjugation map $chi$ and give bounds on the dimensions of $(chi-1)({mathcal{A}_p}^*)_d$‎, ‎where $({mathcal{A}_p}^*)_d$ is the dimension of ${mathcal{A}_p}^*$ in degree $d$‎.
